The Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word, 597 East Avenue
Add this concert to ICALPerformances are on Sunday, May 18th, at 4:00 PM at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word, and Friday, May 23rd, at Downtown United Presbyterian Church.
The concert features Will Todd’s *Among Angels*, a luminous work for choir and two harps that lifts the listener into celestial soundscapes. This piece, performed with harpists Grace Browning, principal harpist of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sunshine Quan, a doctoral candidate at the Eastman School of Music, creates an ethereal atmosphere that transports the audience to a heavenly realm. Complementing this is J.S. Bach’s *Singet dem Herrn*, a motet that invites us to bring a fresh, joyful song to our ever-evolving relationship with the divine. The addition of harp continuo adds a unique color to this canonic choral work.
The program also includes *O Light Divine* by assistant conductor Jonathan Madden, a heartfelt farewell as he departs for the University of Michigan to begin his doctoral studies; Jennifer Lucy Cook’s *They Are Mother*, a vibrant, genre-blending piece reimagining the divine in inclusive terms; and Craig Hella Johnson’s *All of Us*, a moving call to unity and love from *Considering Matthew Shepard*.
Both concerts are offered as a gift to the community, with a suggested donation of $25 for adults and $10 for students—but all are welcome, with or without a donation.
